Mountain Legacy Project

Description:  The Mountain Legacy Project (MLP) is a publicly accessible research collection that uses high-resolution historic survey photography to explore change in Canada’s mountain environments. The collection is internationally distinctive for its size (over 140,000 images), quality (large format glass plate negatives) and comprehensiveness (a triangulated survey of vast portions of Alberta, BC and the Yukon). Since 1998, they have repeated portions of the collection from exactly the same locations and used the image pairs for a variety of landscape change studies. There are more than 6,000 images pairs in the digital collections, making this one of the world’s largest repeat photography collections. More images are added to the digital collections annually, and collaborations with other researchers and organizations are welcomed.
