Description: In October 2013, the Government of British Columbia commissioned an independent assessment of the Kitimat Airshed to help inform regulatory and policy development for future industrial activity in the Kitimat area. The assessment looked at the cumulative effects on both human health and the environment from four proposed LNG facilities, Rio Tinto Alcan’s aluminum smelter and its planned modernization, a proposed oil refinery, the BC Hydro gas turbine powered electrical generation facilities, and the predicted increase to marine shipping in Douglas Channel. See the website for the full report and power point presentation.
